Former French boxing world champion, Thierry Jacob has passed on at the age of 59.

News of his Demise was announced on Friday by the mayor of his hometown, Calais.

Jacob began his professional boxing career in 1984 and retired in 1994, with an astounding 39 victories and 6 losses.

However, his tenure as WBC super bantamweight champion was short-lived, as he lost the title in his first defense against American Tracy Harris Patterson in New York.

The Jacob family’s legacy goes on through the sport. One of Thierry’s kids, Romain Jacob, followed in his father’s footsteps and won the European super featherweight title in 2014.
