VeryDarkMan, a popular social media critic, has issued a public apology for wearing a police uniform without permission.
He had dressed up as a Chief Superintendent Officer, CSP, of the police’s online division, which did not go down well with the Nigerian Police who accused him of impersonation, leading to an invitation for questioning.
After honoring the invitation, VeryDarkMan apologized, stating that he was not aware of the CSP rank and did not intend to impersonate the police.
He also took the opportunity to advise the public to seek permission before using police or law enforcement uniforms, acknowledging that while some might use them for good, others might exploit them for nefarious purposes.
Cyber Reporters notes that the Nigerian Police Force condemned VeryDarkMan’s unauthorized use of their official uniform, releasing a statement to that effect.
VeryDarkMan, whose real name is Vincent Martins Otse, has been known for his social media activism, but this incident has sparked a backlash against him.
VeryDarkMan’s apology and acknowledgement of his mistake serve as a reminder of the importance of respecting the symbols and uniforms of law enforcement agencies. It’s crucial to seek permission before using these uniforms to avoid any potential misuse or misrepresentation.
He captioned the video:
“Back from the police station where I was interrogated based on the post I made wearing a costume that the police claim is similar to theirs,l didn’t intend to impersonate the police in anyway and I tender my unreserved apologies to the Nigeria police force and the office of the inspector general of police and also I will like to use the medium to tell the general public to always seek permission from the police or other law enforcement agencies before using anything that might look like their uniform, you might want to use it for good but there are others that might want to use it for bad, so it’s good to get full approval before using anything that might seem impersonating @nigeriapoliceforce and also shout out to my lawyer @adeyanjudeji who is always ready to stand.”
