The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has cautioned the public to avoid a phoney list of ambassadorial nominations that has been circulating on social media platforms.

In a press release published on Sunday and signed by its spokesman, Kimiebi Ebienfa, the ministry underlined that no such appointments had been made and emphasized that the appointment of ambassadors is purely the President’s responsibility.

The statement reads: “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to inform the general public to kindly disregard the fake list of ambassadorial nominees, which is currently in circulation on some social media platforms.

“The ministry wishes to state unequivocally that the appointment of ambassadors is the prerogative of Mr. President and no such appointments have been made in that regard.

“The purported list should, therefore, be discountenanced,”

President Bola Tinubu recalled all career and non-career ambassadors who oversee the nation’s embassies, consulates, and diplomatic operations abroad on September 2, 2023.

The envoys were instructed to return to the nation by October 31 at the latest. In July 2020, former President Muhammadu Buhari named 42 career ambassadors and 41 non-career ambassadors.

But more than a year later, ambassadors still haven’t been chosen and sent to different nations.
