Tobi Amusan has returned on the biggest stage of all, claiming Nigeria’s first medal at the Tokyo 2025 World Championships, following three tumultuous years in which he failed to place on the podium at a major event.

As Nigeria’s first two-time women’s 100mH medallist in the history of the world championships, Amusan’s outstanding feat will go down in history.

After her poor performance in the Olympic Games in Paris, where she was unable to advance to the final, it is also a fantastic comeback on the largest stage.

Amusan has had a difficult three years since creating history at the 2022 world championships in Oregon, where she placed among the top hurdlers in the world.

But now, with her shining silver medal in Tokyo, she has surely engraved her name not just in Nigerian history books but in the world, which will never be forgotten.

The hurdling queen blazed to a blistering 12.29s to win the silver medal behind surprise winner Ditaji Kambundji, who stormed to a new Swiss national record and personal best of 12.24s.

Amusan was never to be denied her position on the podium, going off from the blast of the gun and holding off USA’s Grace Stark to the end, who settled for bronze in 12.34s – her first medal at a major championship.

Olympic champion Masai Russell was stunned to fourth position, while defending world champion Danielle Williams finished a disappointing fifth.
