Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has issued a stern warning to manager Rúben Amorim, insisting the Portuguese coach must start delivering results immediately following a major summer investment in the squad.

United spent close to £200 million in the transfer window in a bid to rebuild after a disastrous 2024/25 campaign, which saw the club slump to a historic low of 15th in the Premier League. However, a return of just one point from their opening two games this season has already triggered alarm among supporters and pundits alike.

Speaking on his BBC podcast, The Wayne Rooney Show, the ex-England captain said Amorim is now under significant pressure to turn things around quickly.

“There’s no excuses now for the manager this season. He’s got to start getting results – and getting them quickly,” Rooney said.

“Once you get into October or November, if results haven’t improved drastically, that’s when the pressure really kicks in.”

“They needed to hit the ground running this season, and one point from six is a bit of a worry.”

The club’s summer business included several high-profile signings aimed at strengthening key areas of the squad, signalling clear backing for Amorim from the board. But with expectations high and patience wearing thin, Rooney’s comments reflect growing concerns that another underwhelming campaign could already be taking shape.
