Eintracht Frankfurt striker, Hugo Ekitike has signed for Liverpool in a deal worth £79m (€91.5m).

Liverpool will pay an initial cost of £69 million (€80 million) plus £10 million (€12.5 million) in add-ons for the striker, bringing their summer spending to £300 million.

Similar to the Florian Wirtz contract, the majority of the bonuses in Ekitike’s move are related to Liverpool’s trophy success and the player making a substantial contribution.

Liverpool made the move for Ekitike last week after being informed that Newcastle striker Alexander Isak is not for sale. Frankfurt rejected Newcastle’s club record offer of £70 million for Ekitike.

According to Sky Sports News, Liverpool were fine with Newcastle making the first move since they knew Frankfurt would want a bidding war, so the Reds kept away.

When Newcastle was close to reaching an agreement, Liverpool began negotiations, similar to how they signed Luis Diaz from Porto when Tottenham Hotspur was close to doing so in January 2022.

Last season, Ekitike scored 22 goals in 48 games across all competitions for Frankfurt, helping the club qualify for the Champions League.

Liverpool sees him as a versatile center forward who can play as a No. 9 but also as a second striker or out wide.

The club feels Ekitike has the potential to become one of the world’s finest strikers if he stays on this path.
