The Ogun State House of Assembly has summoned Dangote Cement company over alleged environmental abuse.

The assembly passed a motion requesting Dangote Cement Company’s management to deliver the plant’s master plan, detailing all connected amenities such as a trailer park and an industrial drainage channel by international standards.

The decision was taken on Tuesday after the joint House Committees on Trade, Commerce, and Investment, and Environment, chaired by Adebisi Oyedele, presented their reports.

Presenting the report, Oyedele remarked, “The committee found the company culpable of the allegations levelled against it. The committee observed the lackadaisical approach and nonchalant attitude of the company to the livelihood of the people, having constructed a cement factory for decades without a trailer park and deliberately causing havoc on the host communities, as well as commuters plying the road, among others.”

The report followed the Assembly’s earlier request that the business present detailed plans to address environmental deterioration, haphazard parking, and other issues associated with its activities at the Ibese cement facility in the Yewa North Local Government Area.

“The Dangote Group must avail the House with the Ibese cement plant master plan, reflecting all its adjuring facilities, including the trailer park and industrial drainage channel, in line with international best practices.”

The Assembly stressed the significance of the corporation being more proactive in meeting its Corporate Social Responsibility duties to the affected communities.
