It is now official , Marcus Rashford has completed a season-long loan move from Manchester United to Spanish champions Barcelona, the Premier League club confirmed on Wednesday.
The 27-year-old England international becomes the first Englishman to join the Catalan giants since Gary Lineker in 1986. Rashford is expected to feature in Barcelona’s pre-season tour of Asia, beginning in Japan this week.
In a statement, United said:
“Marcus Rashford has joined Barcelona on loan for the duration of the 2025/26 season. Since making his debut in 2016, the Academy graduate has made 426 appearances, scored 138 goals, and won five major trophies.”
Rashford spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa, where he impressed with 10 goal involvements in 17 appearances across all competitions. His move to Spain follows a period of limited playing time under United manager Ruben Amorim, having not featured for the club since December 2024.
Barcelona will cover Rashford’s full wages during the loan spell, after the forward agreed to a pay cut to facilitate the deal. The agreement also includes an option to make the move permanent in 2026 for £30.3 million.
Rashford, who rose through the ranks at Old Trafford and is currently 15th on United’s all-time top scorers list, will be embarking on his first experience outside the Premier League.
The move offers a fresh start for the forward at a club coming off a domestic double, having clinched both La Liga and the Copa del Rey last season.
