Brazil has shortlisted Filipe Luis, a former Chelsea defender, to take Dorival Junior’s place as head coach.

A managerial change is being seriously considered by the Brazilian Federation, as the position of coach Junior is being reviewed.  This follows Tuesday night’s 2026 World Cup qualifying match, in which Junior led Brazil to a 4-1 loss to Argentina.

Although Brazil is still on track to make it to the World Cup the following year, Junior is under more pressure now that they lost to Argentina.

Junior is already under investigation after losing to Paraguay on the road in September and drawing twice with Uruguay and Venezuela in November of last year.

Globo claims that Luis is one of the contenders to succeed Junior, but Carlo Ancelotti, the manager of Real Madrid, is still Brazil’s top pick for the World Cup the following year.

Ancelotti has privately stated that he would be open to accepting the Brazil position, the source continued, although the Italian’s Real Madrid contract expires at the end of the upcoming campaign.  In 2023, Luis announced his retirement from professional football.

Since taking over as Flamengo’s head coach last year, the 39-year-old has already taken home three medals.
