Inter Miami has appointed former Argentina midfielder, Javier Mascherano as its new head coach, replacing Gerardo Martino, who stepped down last week due to personal reasons.
Mascherano, 40, will now coach his former Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi, as well as other familiar faces, including Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, and Luis Suarez.
He brings a wealth of experience to the role, having played for top clubs like River Plate, Corinthians, West Ham United, Liverpool, and Barcelona.
During his time at Barcelona, he won five Spanish titles and two Champions League trophies.
Most recently, he coached the Argentine Under-20 and Olympic teams, including the squad that competed in the Paris Olympics.
Inter Miami’s managing owner, Jorge Mas, expressed his excitement about the appointment, stating that Mascherano’s experience and skills make him the ideal candidate to maximize the team’s unique talent pool.
Mas added that Mascherano’s blend of playing and coaching experience will help the club achieve its goal of becoming one of the world’s elite teams.
Club co-owner David Beckham also welcomed Mascherano, praising his relentless determination, knowledge, and instincts.
Beckham expressed confidence that Mascherano has the qualities needed to lead Inter Miami, MLS’s most high-profile club.
Mascherano himself stated that he is honored to lead Inter Miami and is drawn to the organization’s ambition and infrastructure.

As Mascherano takes the reins, he will be tasked with guiding Inter Miami’s talented squad, which includes global superstars, homegrown players, and young international prospects.
