Tragedy struck the Nigerian football community as Stanley Nwabali, goalkeeper for the Super Eagles, announced the passing of his father.

Cyber Reporters reports that the sorrowful news was shared on Friday through an emotional post on Nwabali’s Instagram page.

Nwabali’s heartfelt tribute, accompanied by a tearful emoji, read: “Rest in peace, dad.”

Although the cause of death remains undisclosed, the goalkeeper’s poignant message conveyed his deep sadness.

The football community has rallied around Nwabali, offering condolences and support during this difficult time.

Cyber Reporters reports that Stanley Nwabali, 24, has been an integral part of the Super Eagles, featuring in several international matches.

Born in Lagos, Nigeria, he began his football career with Nigerian club, Plateau United, before joining Lorient in France’s Ligue 1.

Nwabali’s impressive performances have earned him recognition as one of Nigeria’s promising goalkeeping talents.

The Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, and Nwabali’s teammates have extended their condolences to the bereaved family.

Ahmed Musa, Super Eagles’ captain, tweeted:

“My thoughts and prayers are with you, Stanley. May Allah grant your dad eternal rest.”

Other players, including Wilfred Ndidi and Alex Iwobi, also offered their sympathies.

As Nwabali navigates this challenging period, the football community’s outpouring of support serves as a reminder of the bonds forged through the beautiful game.

The Super Eagles’ next match, against Rwanda in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, may see a tribute to Nwabali’s late father.

Details regarding funeral arrangements and condolences have not been publicly disclosed.
