A tragic event unfolded in Obi local government area on Sunday, resulting in the loss of two lives.

Cyber Reporters gathered that the incident began with a confrontation between an army officer and a police special constable from the Jenkwe Division at Agyaragu Market.

It was confirmed in a statement issued by the Police Relations Officer in the state, Ramhan Nansel, that after the theft was reported, a suspect was apprehended by a police officer in conjunction with a Police Special Constable from the Jenkwe Division at Agyaragu Market.

It  was gathered that it started with a reported motorcycle theft at 12:30 PM, which led to the apprehension of a suspect by a police officer and a special constable.

However, things took a turn when a soldier, on leave from Borno State, intervened and assaulted the police officers, attempting to thwart the arrest.

The situation escalated, with the soldier brandishing a knife and injuring the police special constable.

In self-defense, the police overpowered the soldier, leading to his death. The police special constable also sustained injuries.

Following this incident, a group of youths stormed the police station, setting it ablaze. Police responded, resulting in the fatal injury of three attackers, with one later confirmed dead.

Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Nadada, promptly visited the scene with military personnel and ordered the deployment of additional forces to restore peace.

Normalcy has been restored, but the police investigation continues, with a manhunt underway for the perpetrators.
