Anambra State prepares to safeguard nearly 1.1 million children through an integrated measles campaign in 2024, to lower the disease’s burden.

Mrs. Uju Onwuegbuzina, State Health Educator at the Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency, announced on Tuesday at a zonal meeting in Enugu hosted by the United Nations Children’s Fund and the National Orientation Agency.

Measles Vaccination for Children

According to Onwuegbuzina, 1,227,113 doses of the vaccine have been procured to immunize children in the 330 wards of the 21 local government areas.

She said, “The measles campaign has been scheduled to run from October 12 to 18, 2024, and will be conducted in all designated health facilities and mobile posts in communities, churches, schools markets, and anywhere children can be found.”

Dr. Hillary Ozoh, a social behavioral change specialist at UNICEF’s Field Office in Enugu, emphasized the need for media engagement in meeting the national objective of 95% coverage during the vaccine campaign.

Ozoh encouraged the media to cover the campaign from any informative angle, using data-based stories to educate and enlighten the public about the need for the measles vaccine.
