Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has strongly condemned the trial of minors who participated in the August hunger protest.

Governor Mohammed criticized the stringent bail conditions imposed on them, questioning how individuals struggling to feed themselves daily could afford a ₦10 million bail.

Mohammed expressed his discontent through a statement in Hausa on his Facebook handle, “ArewaMuFarka,” emphasizing the unfair treatment of impoverished children exercising their right to peaceful protest.

The Governor, who also chairs the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Governors Forum, highlighted the inhumane conditions the minors faced during their three-month detention.

He noted their malnourished appearance in court, evident from their dejected looks and lack of balanced diets while in police custody.

Mohammed urged security agencies, the judiciary, and human rights organizations to demand the release of the underage suspects.

He emphasized the need to address the root causes of the hunger protest and ensure the welfare of vulnerable citizens.

The Governor’s stance comes amid growing concerns about the government’s response to social unrest and the treatment of marginalized groups.

His call to action underscores the importance of protecting the rights and dignity of all citizens, particularly the most vulnerable.
