The National Emergency Management Agency has begun a unified quick evaluation of the 2024 flood consequences in partnership with State Emergency Management Agencies and development partners across the country.

NEMA announced on its official X handle on Wednesday.

According to the agency, the joint evaluation intends to combine data collected by NEMA’s Emergency Operations Centre with information from partners to create a nationally validated report on the disaster’s consequences.

Zubaida Umar, Director General of NEMA, stated that the agency was collaborating with SEMAs, the Nigerian Red Cross Society, the International Organization for Migration, and the United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

“The assessment will evaluate the flood’s impacts on communities regarding shelter, livelihoods, food security, water sanitation and hygiene, and access to information and education,” according to a statement.

Umar went on to say that, under best standards, the assessment will allow affected communities to submit feedback on how they can best be helped in their recovery efforts.
