TikTok has reported the removal of over 2.1 million videos from Nigeria for breaking community guidelines in the second quarter of 2024, Cyber Reporters report.
This action is part of the company’s continuous efforts to improve content filtering and make the site safer for users.
According to the Community Guidelines Enforcement Report released on Tuesday, the removed videos accounted for less than one percent of total uploads in Nigeria throughout the reporting period.
“Key findings show that 99.1 per cent of these videos were proactively removed before users reported them, with 90.7 per cent taken down within 24 hours. These figures highlight TikTok’s commitment to staying ahead of harmful content, ensuring a safer platform for Nigerian users,” the report noted.
The platform stated that it would continue to invest in technology targeted at improving content moderation and understanding possible hazards, demonstrating its commitment to transparency and platform safety for its varied user base in Nigeria and around the world.
TikTok says it eliminated over 178 million videos worldwide in June 2024, with 144 million of the removals aided by automated technologies.
“With a proactive detection rate now at 98.2 percent globally, TikTok is more efficient than ever at addressing harmful content before users encounter it,” the short-form mobile video platform noted.
TikTok is owned by ByteDance, a privately held worldwide firm formed by Chinese entrepreneurs. ByteDance is owned by its founders (20%), workers (20%), and worldwide institutional investors (60%).
