The Federal Government has launched a subsidized rice sale program in Ogun State which initiative aims to provide relief to Nigerians, particularly in the face of economic challenges.

Cyber Reporters gathered that the program was launched on Thursday in Abeokuta, the state capital.

Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, represented by the ministry’s State Director, Toyin Ayo-Ajayi, kicked off the ceremony.

According to Kyari, the subsidized rice sale is one of the numerous programs initiated by the Federal Government to bring succor and relief to Nigerians, adding that the government seeks to ensure food security and tackle food inflation.

To purchase the subsidized rice, individuals need only their National Identification Number, NIN, and Automated Teller Machine, ATM, card.

She said the distribution process is being monitored by several Federal Government agencies to ensure transparency, fairness, and adequate security.

Kyari stressed that measures are in place to ensure the rice reaches the intended beneficiaries.

She said:

“However, I want to specifically applaud Gov. Dapo Abiodun for his commitment to the welfare of the citizens of the state.

“Ogun is one of the first set of states in Nigeria to enjoy the benefit and this can be attributed to the governor’s tenacity and visionary leadership.

“Ogun has one of the most organised templates ensuring that this gets to the three Senatorial districts of the state and all at the grassroots.”

Governor Dapo Abiodun commended President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to tackling food inflation and improving livelihoods.

He expressed gratitude for the President’s dedication to supporting the agricultural sector and ensuring food security.

Abiodun noted that the subsidized rice program would help cushion the impact of the petroleum subsidy removal.

He praised the Federal Government for showing responsiveness and thoughtfulness in addressing the nation’s economic realities.

The governor also acknowledged Ogun State’s selection as one of the first beneficiaries of the program, attributing this to his administration’s commitment to the welfare of citizens.

He said:

“This is especially in the light of the present economic realities facing the nation.

“Government has shown responsiveness, thoughtfulness.

“This is appreciated and welcomed, particularly following the removal of petroleum subsidy, as this will go a long way in cushioning the impact of the subsidy removal.”
