Randy Waldrum, the head coach of the Super Falcons, Nigeria’s senior female national team, has tendered his resignation.

The American coach, who was appointed on October 5, 2020, cited his wife’s ill health as the reason for his departure.

In his resignation letter, Waldrum stated that the past few weeks have been challenging due to his wife’s health issues.

He expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to coach the team and highlighted the team’s achievements during his tenure.

During his four-year stint, Waldrum led the Super Falcons to the 2023 World Cup, where they reached the Round of 16, and qualified for the 2024 Olympic Games, ending a 16-year absence from the tournament.

Waldrum’s resignation provides the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, with ample time to find a replacement ahead of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, WAFCON, in Morocco, scheduled for July 5-26, 2025.

He said: “It’s been a very difficult few weeks following the Olympics, with my wife’s health issues, and the worries that obviously come with that. After much thought and consideration, I am hereby resigning my position as Head Coach of the Super Falcons.

“This will allow the NFF ample time to find the next manager to take over this incredible squad,” Waldrum said in his letter.
