Nigerian athlete Flora Ugwunwa has secured her third consecutive Paralympic medal, winning silver in the Women’s Javelin F54 event at the ongoing Paralympic Games in Paris.

With a throw of 19.26m, Ugwunwa finished second on the podium, claiming Nigeria’s first medal in Para-Athletics and the country’s fourth overall.

Ugwunwa’s impressive performance follows her gold medals in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2021, cementing her status as a Paralympic champion.

Although she could not improve on her silver-winning throw despite four more attempts, Ugwunwa’s achievement is a testament to her dedication and skill.

Meanwhile, Nurkhon Kurbanova of Uzbekistan took gold with a record-breaking throw of 21.12m, surpassing Ugwunwa’s former world record of 20.25m set at Rio 2016.

Kurbanova dominated the six-athlete final, throwing beyond 20 meters on each attempt.

Ugwunwa’s silver medal adds to Nigeria’s growing medal tally, following Onyinyechi Mark’s gold medal in powerlifting, Esther Nworgu’s silver medal in para-powerlifting, and Eniola Bolaji’s bronze medal in badminton.
