Nigeria’s Falconets suffered a 3-1 defeat to Germany at the 2024 Women’s Under-20 FIFA World Cup in Colombia on Thursday.

The loss ended their winning streak, which began with a 1-0 victory over the Korean Republic in their first group stage match.

Despite expectations of at least a draw, the Falconets could not overcome Germany, a team they have never beaten in their history.

This marks the sixth consecutive meeting at this level where Nigeria failed to secure a win against Germany.

Germany took control early, scoring in the 17th minute through Alara Sehitler, and Nigeria struggled to convert chances into goals in the first half.

Nigeria showed resilience in the second half, equalizing through Chiamaka Okwuchukwu, but Germany regained the lead with Sofie Zdebel’s goal and sealed the win with a third goal in stoppage time.

The Falconets will face Venezuela in their final group stage match on Sunday, aiming to bounce back from this defeat.
