Chidinma Adetshina, a 23-year-old who previously withdrew from the Miss South Africa 2024 pageant due to a controversy surrounding her nationality, has been crowned Miss Universe Nigeria 2024.

Representing Taraba State, Chidinma emerged victorious among five finalists, including representatives from Rivers, Anambra, Ondo, and Edo States.

She will now represent Nigeria at the Miss Universe pageant in Mexico this November.

Chidinma’s win comes with a N10 million grand prize. In her acceptance speech, she described the crown as a call to action.

Notably, Chidinma faced criticism in South Africa during her Miss South Africa contest.

This led to a government probe and her subsequent withdrawal from the pageant after her mother was accused of fraud and identity theft by the Home Affairs ministry.

Chidinma had written on Instagram: “After much careful consideration, I have made the difficult decision to withdraw myself from the competition for the safety and wellbeing of my family and I.”
