Fulani herdsmen, carrying cows have attacked a farmer, chopping his hands off in Borno State.
The incident which occurred on Friday in Bassam Galomari village, Gubio II Ward, under Gubio Local Government Area of the State left the unidentified farmer fighting for his life.
Zagazola Makama, a Lake Chad Basin counter-terrorism and insurgency expert who made this known in a post on his X handle on Saturday said the confrontation started when the herdsmen, carrying cows, entered a farm belonging to a local resident
Makama narrated that the herdsmen resisted an attempt by the farmer to remove them from his property before one of them attacked the farmer, cutting off his hands.
The security expert said: “A violent incident occurred today at 1:30 pm on Friday Aug 2, 2024 in Bassam Galomari Village, Gubio II Ward, under Gubio Local Government Area.
“Fulani herdsmen, carrying cows, entered a farm belonging to a local resident, leading to a confrontation.
“The farm owner attempted to remove the herdsmen from his property, but they resisted, and one of the Fulani men attacked the farmer, cutting both his hands.
“The victim was rushed to Gubio Hospital, where he was referred to Maiduguri Hospital for further treatment.
“Following the incident, the area has been deemed unsafe, with warnings issued for people to avoid Bassam Galomari Village.
“The security agencies have been mandated to respond to the situation with a view to resolving the crises.”
