Veteran singer Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy has reacted to the Super Eagles’ 2-1 loss to the host nation, Cote d’Ivoire, in the final of the 2023 African Cup of Nations, AFCON 2023, held in Abidjan on Sunday.

Charly Boy praised Jose Peseiro’s team’s efforts against Ivory Coast, but conceded that the greater team won.

He asked Nigerians to put the setback behind them and address the country’s current difficulties, which include a significant increase in the cost of living, insecurity, and a lack of reliable electricity supply.

Charly took to his X account and wrote: “The Super Eagles really tried but the best team won,”

“Now, it’s time for us to confront the challenges ahead,” he added.

Nigeria took the lead in the first half with a header by William Troost-Ekong. However, Cote d’Ivoire equalized in the second half through Franck Kessie’s header. Sebastien Haller sealed the win for the hosts in the last minutes of the game with a well-placed flick past goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.
