Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has disclosed that there are no plans to bring in embattled Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe to Anfield.
French club PSG are desperate to sell the player this summer to avoid him leaving for free when his contract expires next year.
Earlier reports have it that the striker was on the radar of Liverpool, but Jurgen Klopp told Sky Germany that there are financial constraints which would not make such a move possible.
In an exclusive chat with Sky Germany, Klopp said:
“We laugh about it. I can say that I think he’s a really good player, but the financial conditions don’t suit us at all. I wouldn’t like to ruin the story now… but as far as I know, there’s nothing to it.
“It’s possible that someone else from the club is preparing something and wants to surprise me… that hasn’t happened in the eight years that I’ve been here. That would be the first time.”
Meanwhile, Spanish giants Real Madrid have remained silent about their position on the player’s transfer situation.
Mbappe failed to trigger the one-year extension clause in his PSG contract and the player has been dropped from the squad on their preseason tour.
The big question is whether Real Madrid will make a bid for Mbappe in this window or risk losing him to another club.
