Chelsea secured their first trophy under head coach Sonia Bompastor, defeating Manchester City 2-1 in the Women’s League Cup final at Pride Park.

Cyber Reporters reports that the victory keeps Chelsea’s bid for a historic quadruple alive, with the team still competing in the Champions League, FA Cup, and Women’s Super League.

Mayra Ramirez opened the scoring for Chelsea, netting an early goal after City skipper Laia Aleixandri’s attempted clearance bounced off her and into the net.

Manchester City dominated play after the opener but were unable to find a breakthrough in the first half, thanks in part to Chelsea’s solid center-back pairing of Millie Bright and Nathalie Bjorn.

Aoba Fujino leveled the score with a stunning strike after the break, but Chelsea regained the lead when Yui Hasegawa scored an own goal.

The win marked Chelsea’s first League Cup title in three years and capped an impressive run under Bompastor, who has won 26 of her 28 games since taking over as head coach.

Manchester City, playing under interim boss Nick Cushing following Gareth Taylor’s departure, pushed hard for an equalizer but ultimately came up short.

Chelsea’s victory sets the stage for an intense 12-day battle between the two teams, with four consecutive matchups scheduled.

With the League Cup title in hand, Chelsea turns its attention to the Champions League, FA Cup, and Women’s Super League, where they sit eight points clear at the top of the table with six games remaining.
