Former Arsenal and Man Utd striker, Robin van Persie has been confirmed as Feyenoord’s next manager, leaving his position as Heerenveen manager effective immediately.

The 41-year-old, who also played for Arsenal and Manchester United, takes over Feyenoord, his hometown club where he began his career and won the 2001-02 UEFA Cup. Rene Hake, who departed Manchester United in November with Erik ten Hag, will assist the former Netherlands international.

Van Persie acknowledged that he is delighted to join Feyenoord, describing it as a dream come true.

“Everyone knows how special my bond with Feyenoord is. I am really looking forward to working with the group of players on 1908, together with a strong staff, and then playing matches in De Kuip, supported by the legion, and achieving success together,” Van Persie said.

Van Persie’s hiring comes after Feyenoord fired Brian Priske earlier this month, with Pascal Bosschaart taking over interim duties. Feyenoord presently stands third in the Eredivisie, 13 points behind leaders Ajax.
