Irish boxer and Olympic Medalist, Michael Conlan has signed a contract with the Wasserman Boxing agency, which is run by well-known promoter Kalle Sauerland, in a bid to keep his world title hopes alive.

The Belfast man, 33, has not fought since December 2023, when he was knocked out in seven rounds by England’s Jordan Gill.

That defeat followed world title defeats to Leigh Wood and Luis Alberto Lopez. Conlan stated this month that he intends to return to the ring in 2025 and is expected to fight on a March 7 bill in Brighton, where his fellow Belfast fighter Tyrone McKenna will face Harlem Eubank.

British light-middleweight champion Josh Kelly is also a member of the Wasserman Boxing stable, which also contains Chris Eubank Jr.’s nephew, Unbeaten Eubank.

“I still firmly believe I have the ability to get to the very top, and I did not want to retire and 10 or 15 years down the line thinking ‘what if?’,” Conlan remarked.

“For this defining period in my career, it was vital to partner with the right promoter and I am thrilled to team up with Kalle, [his brother] Nisse and the whole team at Wasserman Boxing.”

Conlan, a former world amateur champion and 2012 Olympic bronze medallist, signed with Bob Arum’s Top Rank stable and made his professional debut at Madison Square Garden in 2017.

However, he broke with the renowned promoter following his second world title loss in May 2023, and Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom stable promoted his fight against Gill seven months later.

Conlan’s professional record now stands at 18 wins and three losses, with all of his losses occurring in his last five fights.
