Nigerian forward, Ademola Lookman has been named the 2024 CAF Men’s Player of the Year, succeeding his countryman, Victor Osimhen.
The prestigious honor was awarded to Lookman at the ceremony held in Marrakech, Morocco, on December 16.
Lookman, 27, was chosen from a pool of talented nominees, including Simon Adingra, Achraf Hakimi, Serhou Guirassy, and Ronwen Williams.
Many football enthusiasts had tipped Lookman for the award since the nominees were announced in November, citing his impressive performance in the 2023-2024 season.
Lookman’s achievement is largely attributed to his outstanding performance with Atalanta, where he helped the team win the UEFA Europa League.
He made history by scoring a hat-trick in the final against Bayer Leverkusen, leading Atalanta to a 3-0 victory.
Additionally, Lookman excelled at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where Nigeria finished second.
Last season, Lookman’s impressive stats included 17 goals and 10 assists for Atalanta. This season, he has already scored 11 goals and provided 5 assists in 19 games across all competitions.
