Dan Ashworth has parted ways with Manchester United after just five months as the club’s sporting director.

Cyber Reporters reports that Ashworth joined United on July 1, but his tenure was marked by a bumpy transition.

His exit was agreed upon in a meeting with chief executive Omar Berrada at Old Trafford on Saturday. Sir Jim Ratcliffe played a key role in the decision to part ways with Ashworth.

The move is expected to surprise staff at United, given Ashworth’s prominent role in reshaping the club. Sources indicate that United initiated the separation, although the club claims the decision was mutual.

Ashworth was responsible for overseeing football performance, recruitment, and operations at United.

He worked closely with technical director Jason Wilcox and manager Erik ten Hag. Ashworth was involved in the club’s significant summer spending, which included the signings of several high-profile players.

Despite his involvement in key decisions, Ashworth’s tenure was short-lived. His departure marks a significant change in the club’s leadership, with Sir Dave Brailsford overseeing the new hierarchy.

The appointment of Ruben Amorim as manager was also made without Ashworth’s public endorsement.

Ashworth’s exit raises questions about the club’s direction and leadership. United’s owners and executives will face scrutiny over the decision to part ways with Ashworth.

The search for Ashworth’s replacement is expected to begin soon and United will be looking for a candidate with the experience and expertise to help drive the club’s success.

Ashworth’s departure marks the end of a brief but eventful tenure at Manchester United.

The club’s owners and executives will be hoping that the change in leadership will bring stability and success to the team.
