A devastating fire broke out in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Thursday, ravaging a building containing four rooms and 23 shops.

Cyber Reporters gathered that the incident occurred along Onimamayin Street in the Agbo-Oba Taiwo Oke area of the metropolis.

Fortunately, the prompt response of firefighters from the Kwara State Fire Service saved the building from total destruction.

It was gathered that their swift action limited the damage, confining the blaze to only nine shops.

Regrettably, a provision store and several industrial sewing machines were lost in the inferno.

According to Hassan Adekunle, spokesman for the Kwara State Fire Service, preliminary investigations revealed that a power surge was the cause of the fire.

He said: “Only nine shops were affected by the inferno. Unfortunately, a provision store and several industrial sewing machines were lost in the incident.

The Director of the Fire Service, Prince John Falade Olumuyiwa, expressed sympathy to the victims and prayed for the restoration of their losses.

Olumuyiwa also seized the opportunity to counsel the public on electrical safety.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and safety-conscious, emphasizing the importance of unplugging all electrical appliances when not in use to prevent similar incidents.
