Akwa Ibom Set to Pay N80,000 Minimum Wage

 Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has introduced a new N80,000 minimum salary package for the state’s public sector personnel.

The governor also formed an Implementation Committee, tasked with delivering a report within one month.

According to a statement signed on Wednesday by the commissioner of Information and Strategy, Ini Ememobong, the committee is chaired by Effiong Essien, the Head of the Civil Service.

Ememobong said, “Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, has announced that the State Government will pay a new minimum wage of N80,000 for all state government employees.

“To ensure a smooth rollout of this policy, the governor has also constituted an implementation committee, which has been given one month to deliver its report on how the wage increase will be executed.”

The committee’s parastatal and ministry heads include the chairman of the State Civil Service Commission, the chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, the Permanent Secretary of the Department of Establishments, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Manpower Planning.

Other positions include Permanent Secretary/Solicitor General, Ministry of Justice; Permanent Secretary/Accountant General; Permanent Secretary, Local Government Service Commission; Permanent Secretary, Office of the Head of Civil Service; Director of Budget; State Chairman, Joint Public Service Negotiating Council; and Secretary, Joint Public Sector Negotiating Council.
