FIFA has no plans to move Iran’s World Cup matches to Mexico this summer.

The head of Iran’s Football Federation said they would not travel to the USA and negotiations were taking place with FIFA about changing the schedule to play in Mexico.

This was in direct response to US President Donald Trump saying it would not be appropriate for Iran’s men’s team to play in the USA “for their own life and safety”.

However, moving Iran’s games to Mexico is not on the agenda for FIFA.

A spokesperson for world football’s governing body told Sky Sports News: “FIFA is in regular contact with all participating member associations, including IR Iran, to discuss planning for the FIFA World Cup 2026.

“FIFA is looking forward to all participating teams competing as per the match schedule announced on 6 December 2025.”
