Two foreign clubs have reportedly threatened to terminate the contracts of Ugandan stars, Melvyn Lorenzen and Timothy Awany if they choose to represent their country at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Lorenzen plays for Thai side Muangthong United, while Awany is on the books of Israeli outfit FC Ashdod.
According to the Cranes media officer, Paul Mukatabala, the two clubs have warned the duo that they will be sacked if they go for the AFCON.
The revelation has sparked outrage among African football stakeholders.
The Federation of International Football Association, FIFA, has directed all clubs to release invited players one week before the start of the competition.
Morocco will host the AFCON 2025 finals from December 21 to January 18, 2026.
