Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus has hit back on claims he could leave the club in January by saying he is focused on “fighting to get back in the team” after injury.

The Brazilian striker is closing in on a return to action after a 10-month ACL injury sustained in January.

Reports have linked Jesus with a move away from Arsenal in the January transfer window with Viktor Gyokeres and Kai Havertz also at the club competing for a striker role.

Jesus has also been linked with a move back to Brazil in a bid to boost his chances of playing at next summer’s World Cup – and while he has a desire to move back to former club Palmeiras later in his career, there is not immediate desire to leave Arsenal just yet.

“I’ve never had contact with another club, and my desire, as I say, is to return to Palmeiras, and Palmeiras’ desire is for me to return to Palmeiras,’ he said.

“When I feel it’s time to return to Palmeiras, I’ll decide that with Arsenal, but we’re talking about a player who’s been out for nine months and is now fighting to get back into the team, and there are journalists who are talking without any basis whatsoever.”
