Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle has labeled the must-win World Cup qualifier against Benin Republic in Uyo as the most important match of his managerial career.

Eric Chelle is under immense pressure to guide the Super Eagles to the 2026 FIFA World Cup after the team missed the 2022 tournament.

He is confronting former Nigeria boss Gernot Rohr, who has led Benin Republic to the top of the standings ahead of this high-stakes final group game.

The Super Eagles currently trail Group C leaders Benin by three points, and must secure a victory by at least two goals at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo to retain any hope of qualifying.

Despite the team’s challenges, including a plane being delayed by a windscreen crack on the journey to Uyo, Chelle assured fans his focus remains absolute.

“For me, as a coach, it’s maybe the most important game of my career,” Chelle said during Monday’s pre-match press conference.
