The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, plans to review Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle’s contract next month after the team’s final 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin.

Cyber Reporters gathered Chelle was handed a one-year contract with an option for two more years in January, with the primary goal of qualifying Nigeria for the 2026 World Cup.

The Super Eagles are currently third in Group C, trailing leaders South Africa by six points with just two matches left.

The team’s qualification chances are looking slim, and the contract review will likely determine Chelle’s future as the team’s coach.

Both the NFF and the Nigeria Sports Commission are expected to make a decision on Chelle’s future.

The review will come barely two months before the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, adding pressure on the NFF to make a timely decision.

Chelle’s contract specifics indicate a two-year deal with a possible one-year extension if Nigeria qualifies for the World Cup.

This clause suggests that the NFF is cautious about committing to the coach without seeing tangible results.

The NFF has already shown support for Chelle’s campaign, with the Presidential Support Group paying his salary upfront until October 2025 to provide financial stability and allow him to focus on the team’s qualification bid.
