Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has praised Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho for his decisive contribution in the club’s 2-1 win over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.

Iheanacho, who joined the Scottish champions at the end of the transfer window, made his debut on Saturday, coming on for the final 20 minutes of the game. With almost the last kick of the match, he held his nerve to convert a penalty that sealed victory for Celtic.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Rodgers said the goal could prove pivotal for the 27-year-old forward, especially after a challenging spell at Sevilla last season.

“The last penalty I remember him scoring for me was at Wembley when we beat Manchester City in the Community Shield final. He showed great composure to score that day, and he scored again today, so I’m really pleased for him.”

The win keeps Celtic firmly in the title race, while Iheanacho’s dream start has already endeared him to the Hoops faithful.
