Veteran Mexican goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa saw a proposed move to Spanish club Burgos CF fall through in dramatic fashion on transfer deadline day, after leaving contract talks for a coffee break, only to never return.

The 40-year-old had flown to Spain to finalise a move, with medical checks reportedly completed and the majority of contract terms agreed. However, according to Spanish journalist Sergio González Pulgar, the deal unexpectedly collapsed during a meeting between Ochoa’s representatives and the club.

Sources suggest Ochoa’s camp requested a short break to reconsider a specific clause in the contract. Burgos officials expected negotiations to resume shortly, but the player and his entourage failed to return, and subsequent attempts to contact them went unanswered.

Ochoa, who has won 151 caps for Mexico and featured in five World Cups, is now a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Italian side Salernitana earlier this summer.

Over the course of a distinguished career, Ochoa has played for a number of clubs across Europe and the Americas, including Club América, AC Ajaccio, Málaga, Granada, Standard Liège, and Portuguese side ABC.

Burgos CF have not yet commented publicly on the breakdown of talks.
