Liverpool Agree £35m Deal For England Defender Marc Guéhi

Premier League champions Liverpool have agreed a £35 million deal to sign England international Marc Guéhi from Crystal Palace.

The 25-year-old centre-back is expected to finalise the move on Monday, with a medical scheduled in London before signing a long-term contract at Anfield.

Negotiations between the two clubs progressed swiftly over the weekend, with Liverpool and Palace settling on a fee that includes a 10% sell-on clause. Guéhi becomes the Reds’ second major signing of a dramatic deadline day, following the club’s headline-grabbing £125m deal for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.

Guéhi bid farewell to Crystal Palace on Sunday evening in fitting fashion, captaining the side and scoring a spectacular goal in a commanding 3-0 victory at Aston Villa , his final appearance in Palace colours.

While he stopped short of addressing his future directly after the match, Guéhi remained characteristically grounded in his post-match comments.

“All I know is when you score goals like that it is always down to team performance,” he said. “People will try to single out the goal but that was a clear team performance tonight.”

The move marks the end of a transformative chapter for Guéhi, who joined Palace from Chelsea in 2021. Since then, he has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most consistent defenders, amassing 162 appearances and captaining the side to its first-ever major trophy with FA Cup success last season.

Guéhi has also become a regular in Gareth Southgate’s England squad, earning 23 senior caps to date.

His arrival adds significant depth to Liverpool’s defensive ranks, particularly following the summer departures of Jarell Quansah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, both of whom moved on amid a wider reshaping of the squad.

With Guéhi now on board, Liverpool’s total summer spend rises to approximately £451.2 million, a record-breaking outlay for a single transfer window in the Premier League era. The club has also brought in striker Hugo Ekitike, full-back Jeremie Frimpong, goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, defender Milos Kerkez, midfielder Armin Pecsi, and teenage centre-back Giovanni Leoni.

Offsetting that investment, the Reds have recouped around £190 million through the exits of Luis Díaz, Darwin Núñez, Kelleher, Tyler Morton, Ben Doak, and others.

With the season already underway, Liverpool’s aggressive push in the market signals their intent to build a squad capable of defending their league crown and challenging on all fronts , both domestically and in Europe.
