Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Dismissed By Beşiktaş After Early European Exit

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s return to management has come to an abrupt end, as Beşiktaş have officially parted ways with the former Manchester United boss following their elimination from the UEFA Europa Conference League.

The Norwegian coach, 52, took charge of the Turkish giants in January, his first managerial post since departing Manchester United in November 2021. However, his tenure in Istanbul was cut short after Beşiktaş suffered a disappointing 1-0 home defeat to Lausanne-Sport, sealing a 2-1 aggregate loss in the play-off round.

The result not only ended Beşiktaş’s European hopes for the season but also triggered immediate action from the club’s board. Just hours after the final whistle, the club released a brief statement confirming Solskjaer’s dismissal.

“Our contract with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been terminated following a decision made at the board meeting,” the statement read. “Following the meeting, our chairman, Serdal Adalı, thanked Solskjaer for his services to date. We respectfully present it to the public.”

The sacking comes just one match into the new Turkish Super Lig campaign, highlighting the club’s urgency to realign its direction after a stuttering start both domestically and in Europe.

Solskjaer, a revered figure at Manchester United both as a player and a coach, had taken the Beşiktaş role in hopes of revitalizing his managerial career. However, his time in Turkey has ended far sooner than anticipated.

The club is now expected to begin its search for a replacement immediately as it aims to stabilize its season and reassert itself both at home and abroad.

is this really a good move ? Should all the blame go to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer?
