Former Nigeria international Victor Ikpeba has backed the Super Eagles to revive their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign with crucial wins over Rwanda and South Africa in their upcoming fixtures.

Nigeria, currently fourth in Group C with seven points from six matches, are under pressure to turn their form around as they face a pivotal stretch in the qualification race.

The Super Eagles will host Rwanda’s Amavubi at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Saturday, 6 September, before travelling to Bloemfontein to take on South Africa’s Bafana Bafana four days later.

Speaking on Monday Night Football on SuperSport, Ikpeba acknowledged the team’s recent struggles but expressed confidence in their ability to respond.

“The players have let the country down and must take responsibility for the poor run,” the former Monaco striker said. “But we can’t dwell on the past. There is pride, determination and honour in playing for Nigeria. I believe the boys are now ready and motivated to do the job against Rwanda and South Africa.

“We can do it, but we must fight for it, we have to earn it.”

Ikpeba, a member of Nigeria’s golden generation, believes that with the right mentality, the Super Eagles can still secure qualification for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
