Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham has undergone successful surgery on his left shoulder and now faces a spell on the sidelines, with Spanish media reporting a recovery time of 10 to 12 weeks.
In a short statement on Tuesday, the club confirmed the England midfielder required surgery to correct a recurrent dislocation that has plagued him since his debut season in Spain.
“The procedure was successful,” Real Madrid said. “Bellingham will now begin a period of rehabilitation before returning to training.”
The 22-year-old first injured the shoulder in November 2023 during a clash with Rayo Vallecano, but opted for conservative treatment at the time to remain available for club duties- a decision that kept him playing but never truly pain-free.
Speaking after Madrid’s Club World Cup victory over Pachuca last month, Bellingham admitted the ongoing discomfort had finally taken its toll.
“I’ll have the surgery done after the tournament,” he said. “I’m sick of playing with the brace, especially in the heat. It’ll be nice to have my old shoulder back – I’m really looking forward to it.”
Bellingham featured in all of Madrid’s Club World Cup fixtures and remains a key figure for both club and country. His absence will be keenly felt as the new La Liga season approaches and England prepare for their autumn internationals.
