The Federal Government has publicly established 16 years as the minimum age for entrance to Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.
Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, made the announcement on Tuesday during the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board’s 2025 Policy Meeting in Abuja. While declaring the meeting open, Alausa stressed that the age limit is now official and non-negotiable.
He warned that any admission conducted outside of the Central Admissions Processing System would be considered illegal.
In addition, the minister said that leaders of institutions found guilty of admission fraud or evading CAPS will face legal action.
Guidelines for the admissions process to universities, polytechnics, and educational institutes for the upcoming academic year are established at the annual policy meeting.
