The European football governing body, UEFA, will pay tribute to the late Pope Francis by observing a moment of silence before the kickoff of this week’s Youth League and Women’s Champions League semi-finals.

Cyber Reporters understands that a minute’s silence will also be held during the men’s club competition semi-finals, scheduled to take place from April 29 to May 1.

UEFA President, Aleksander Čeferin expressed his condolences and paid tribute to the Pope’s profound influence and legacy.

Čeferin described Pope Francis as “a beacon of hope for all humanity,” particularly during challenging times marked by conflict and adversity.

The Pope’s passing has sent ripples of grief throughout the global community, and UEFA’s decision to hold a moment of silence is a testament to his enduring impact.

Pope Francis was known for championing the causes of the poor, the humble, and the vulnerable, and for advocating for peace, respect, acceptance, and equality.

In respect of the Pope’s passing, all La Liga games scheduled for April 27, the day of his funeral, have been postponed.

Pope Francis is expected to be laid to rest at the Vatican City on Saturday, April 27.
