A final-year student of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, identified as John, a Higher National Diploma, HND, student in the Department of Journalism and Media Studies, has died during a karate training session on campus.
Cyber Reporters gathered that John fainted immediately after entering the karate ring and was rushed to a private hospital in Ikot Ekpene.
According to reports, the private hospital refused to admit him, referring him to the General Hospital, Ikot Ekpene, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Nsoefen Akpan, President of the Journalism and Media Studies Students Association, JAMSSA, narrated the events, saying students were shocked and took the deceased to a church for prayers, but unfortunately, efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.
A spiritualist claimed the deceased had already passed on in the spirit world. The students eventually returned the corpse to the mortuary.
The Head of Department, Inemesit Umoren, addressed the students, who were still in shock, before they dispersed.
Cyber Reporters understands that John’s parents have been informed of his passing.
His colleagues described him as a healthy individual who had written exams just a few days prior without showing any signs of illness.
The sudden death has left the students and staff in shock, particularly since karate training was a regular activity for John every Saturday morning.
