Brazilian Footballer Neymar has issued a statement following his departure from the national squad due to injury.
In a post on his Instagram story on Friday, the former Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona player thanked everyone who offered him supportive comments.
Neymar wrote: “The return seemed so close but unfortunately I won’t be able to return to wearing the heaviest shirt in the world in this moment!”.
“We had long conversations and everyone knows the great desire I have to return but we came to a consensus and decided not to risk it for me to better prepare myself and be completely injury free!”.
“Thank you to those who sent me messages of support. “It’s part of the process.
Neymar was unexpectedly called up for Brazil’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Colombia and Argentina this month.
He was dropped from the squad, however, and has decided not to return for the time being in order to properly recover from his injuries.
The 33-year-old relocated from Al-Hilal to Santos earlier this year to relaunch his career.
