Fulham FC has strongly condemned the racist and homophobic abuse directed at defender Calvin Bassey on social media after their FA Cup victory over Manchester United.

Cyber Reporters gathered that Bassey, a Nigeria international, scored the opening goal in the match, which ended 1-1 and saw Fulham win on penalties.

In a statement released on Monday, Fulham expressed their outrage and disgust at the abuse, stating that it has no place in football or society.

The club vowed to fully support Bassey and work with authorities to identify and take action against the perpetrators.

Fulham emphasized their commitment to maintaining a zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of discrimination, and pledged to continue fostering an environment of respect and inclusion.

The club’s strong stance against abuse and discrimination has been welcomed by fans and the wider football community.

Fulham will next face Crystal Palace in the FA Cup quarter-finals on March 29.

The statement reads:

“Fulham Football Club is utterly appalled at the racist and homophobic abuse received and subsequently shared by Calvin Bassey on social media after Sunday’s FA Cup tie against Manchester United.

“We strongly condemn this abhorrent behaviour, which has no place in football or society. Such actions are entirely unacceptable, and we stand in full support of Calvin Bassey, who will continue to receive our full backing.

“We will do everything in our power to work with the relevant authorities to identify the perpetrators of these vile messages and take the strongest possible action against them.

“Fulham Football Club is committed to maintaining a firm stance against all forms of discrimination and remains dedicated to fostering an environment of respect and inclusion.”
