Nigeria’s U-19 Women cricket team made history on Monday by defeating New Zealand in a rain-curtailed ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup 2025 group match in Malaysia.

The match was played at the Sarawak Cricket Ground, where Nigeria’s young cricketers showed remarkable resilience and determination.

Cyber Reporters reports batting first, Nigeria scored 65/6 in the 13-over-per-side contest, which was heavily impacted by weather conditions.

New Zealand, known for their strong cricketing tradition, replied with 63/6, falling short of Nigeria’s total by just two runs.

This thrilling victory marked Nigeria’s first-ever win in the competition.

The historic win propelled Nigeria to the top spot in Group C with three points, ahead of South Africa, Samoa, and New Zealand.

The team’s impressive performance has sent shockwaves in the cricket world, and they will look to continue their winning streak.

Nigeria’s opening match against Samoa was abandoned due to rain, and their match against New Zealand was reduced to 13 overs per side due to weather conditions.

Nigeria will face South Africa in their final group match on Wednesday, aiming to build on their momentum and secure a spot in the next round.
