Kenneth Omeruo, a Super Eagles defender, has declared that he has no aspirations to return to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

Instead, he showed a strong desire to explore and develop young talent within the league.

Omeruo announced his decision during a live X (previously Twitter) Space session co-hosted with fellow Nigerian internationals Wilfred Ndidi and Asisat Oshoala, as well as many Nigerian journalists.

Omeruo explained why he did not return to the NPFL, citing the lack of a top-tier club in his birthplace of Abuja.

He said, “I don’t think I will come back to play in the NPFL. I grew up in Abuja and they don’t have a club playing in the topflight. And right now, I can’t go back to Akure. I don’t see myself going back to the Nigerian league to play but I’m someone who likes scouting good players.”

He recalls using an NPFL streaming app to share game footage with his agent and others, demonstrating the league’s quality.
