Liverpool have confirmed the permanent transfer of goalkeeper Marcelo Pitaluga to his former club Fluminense.

Cyber Reporters reports that the Brazilian goalkeeper has spent over four years at Anfield, but has found opportunities limited.

Pitaluga was behind Allison Becker and Caoimhin Kelleher in the pecking order, making it difficult for him to break into the first team.

Despite this, he was named in the senior match-day squad on seven occasions, showing promise and potential.

During his time at Liverpool, Pitaluga had loan spells at Macclesfield FC, St Patrick’s Athletic, and Livingston.

These experiences would have helped him gain valuable playing time and develop his skills as a goalkeeper.

The transfer comes on the heels of Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Manchester United on Sunday.

The Reds remain top of the Premier League table with 46 points from 19 games, and will be looking to maintain their momentum in the coming weeks.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot will now be left to assess his goalkeeping options, and may consider bringing in reinforcements during the January transfer window.

In a statement, Liverpool wished Pitaluga “the best of luck for the future,” acknowledging his contributions to the club during his time at Anfield.

The Brazilian goalkeeper will now return to his former club Fluminense, where he will be looking to establish himself as a first-team regular.
